A country’s competitiveness is composed of the factors that affect its efficiency. Through the limits of its competitiveness, one can determine the potential level of prosperity that the country can reach. The more competitive economy is, the more returns for investments it will get and the more growth rate will increase. By assessing the regional distribution of competitiveness in Turkey, EDAM aims to contribute to regional development, welfare generation, the distribution of welfare and to policies for the relationship between economics and democracy. EDAM’s first research on the matter was the 2009 Competitiveness Index for Turkish Regions. EDAM worked in collaboration with TÜRKONFED in order to update its 2009 findings. In this report, EDAM has continued using the regional focus to determine competitiveness levels, but enlarged its data set and used a renewed methodology to recalculate the indexes of 2008 and 2014. This research, which has been carried out on a province basis, analyzed how competitiveness is spread across the country and which aspects of competitiveness differ from province to province. The index focused on two different time periods, 2008 and 2014, in order to compare the changes in sub-indexes in the province level.
